Bike to Work Day/Week/Month events are similar to several other national bike events (like the Bicycle Film Festival, Tour de Fat, and so on) that have trouble being a big deal in Portland. But even so, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some fun events to attend.
Yesterday I shared some info on the BTA’s Bike to Work Day event coming up on Friday May 20th; but there are two other events you might want to add to your calendar.
The first one is coming up this Friday (5/13). It’s the annual Lloyd Transportation Management Association Bike to Work Day Party. The Lloyd TMA knows how to have fun (one year they even had staff do a Sprockettes-inspired dance) and you won’t want to miss this event.. Roll over to Oregon Square (between NE Holladay and 9th) from 7:30 to 9:00 am for free breakfast and treats, a chance to rub shoulders with local dignitaries, free bike repair (from Bike Gallery and Cyclepath), free massages, and they’ll even raffle off a folding bike.
Also at the Lloyd event this year, TriMet will have a bus and operator on hand and you can hop up into the driver’s seat and ask the operator your burning bike/bus questions.
And then, next Tuesday (5/17) is the grandaddy of all Bike to Work events, the historic annual Bike to Work Breakfast at Pioneer Square. Check out this City of Portland archive photo from the mid 1990s…
Like they’ve done for decades, PBOT will be serving up breakfast from 7:30 to 9:00 am in the square. Stop on by and chat with friends old and new.
Happy bike month! (If you’re into that sort of thing.)
