I know I said I was signing off for the year, but as temps dropped into the 20s last night and a clear sky shone through, I was eager to wake up early this morning to ride in the brisk air and soak up the last sunrise of 2010.

I was also inspired to get up early to see off a few hearty souls embarking for a bike camping trip being organized by local non-profit Cycle Wild. Check out the photos below…

Four people met at Voodoo Doughnuts this morning en route to cabins at Stub Stewart State Park for a bike-camping trip.
Coffee and doughnuts; perfect fuel for a 50 mile ride.
Matt couldn’t get his trailer this morning, so he had to carry the LCD monitor on his back rack. He also has a hard drive with 250 movies, speakers, and a bunch of other fun stuff packed into those bags.
This is Matt Picio, founder of Cycle Wild and leader of the trip.
A group shot right before they headed off for the Hillsboro MAX station where they’ll meet up with about 20 other people for the ride out to Stub Stewart via the Banks-Vernonia Trail.

After seeing off my bike-camping pals, I headed for the river to take in the sunrise…

The floating portion of the Esplanade from the Burnside Bridge.
That’s one cold bike lane.
Sunrise!
The tail end of the bike campers.
This woman was one of only a few people out on bikes this morning.
Nice of them to warn us.
Sunrise on the Hawthorne Bridge.

And finally, Happy New Year from former Mayor Vera Katz!
