After a several weeks of what seemed like non-stop bike events, this weekend’s guide is comparatively light, accompanied by a damp forecast. Is it the calm before the storm? Probably yes, in more ways than one.
Friday, October 22nd
10:00am-4:00pm: Walls of Pride
Join the Dill Pickle Club, the Walls of Heritage Committee, and the Mallory Avenue Community Enrichment on this guided tour of Portland’s African American public art. The event will feature presentations from some of the artists and local curators, on an easy-paced 10 mile loop around town. Ride meets at the Mallory Ave Community Enrichment Center at 126 NE Alberta, tickets ($10) and are available through the event website here.
7:00-11:00pm: Portland Bicycle Studio/Upper Echelon Fitness Open House
Two local bike businesses are celebrating a big move to a larger space with a grand opening party. Portland Bicycle Studio is a custom bike fitting and buying venue and Upper Echelon Fitness is a one-stop shop for bike training, rehab, fit, nutrition, and more. Stop by 1420 NW 17th Suite 388 to wish owners Molly Cameron and Russell Cree good luck in their venture.
Saturday, October 23rd
2:45pm: Kidical Mass
Maybe Portland’s grown-ups aren’t quite ready to bring back the traditional Critical Mass event, but when it comes to a loosely organized, two-wheeled takeover of the streets everybody knows the kids are alright. Bring your tykes and trikes (or borrow some from a friend!) and join the fun starting from the park blocks at SW Park and Mill.
Sunday, October 24th
All day Cross Crusade #4
This weekend’s weather should be perfect for some great cyclocross, and Cross Crusade‘s fourth event of the season is happening this Sunday at Portland International Raceway. Come wrap your tires in some of the area’s best mud or cheer and jeer those braver than you from the sidelines.
4:00pm: Brian film screening
Come to the Hollywood Theater for a special Portland screening of the award-winning documentary, Brian. The film honors the memory of Portlander Brian Reynolds and his quest to complete Cycle Oregon 2004 during his bout with cancer. Q & A after the film with Brian’s wife and the filmmaker. Hollywood Theater is located at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd.
