Looks like another great weekend in the saddle! This week’s guide offers something for everyone: trail building and advocacy, freak bikes, informative tours, and plenty of mud.

Friday, October 15th

8:00pm: Freak Bike Alleycat
The main event of Freak Bike Fall, come join what promises to be a crazy good race. Freak bikes of all shapes and sizes will compete in a race around town, stopping at some truly unique and interesting checkpoints along the way. Race begins at Irving Park, NE 7th and Fargo.

Saturday, October 16th

9:00am-11:00am: Share the Park Ride
This peaceful gathering and ride through Forest Park was organized after last month’s decision by the city to halt new or improved bicycle access through the popular Portland park. All are invited to meet up at the Thurman gate entrance and enjoy free coffee and treats and ride with the group to demonstrate the importance of including bicycles in the park.

9:00am-4:00pm: Stub Stewart Volunteer Trail Building
Looking to get involved in a different way?  The Northwest Trail Alliance will be out at Stub Stewart State Park this weekend working on new off-road trails and are looking for volunteers to help out. Get full details and RSVP information here.

10:00am-12:00pm: NE/SE 50s Bikeway Project Ride
Join the 50s Bikeway Project’s Citizen’s Advisory Committee as they tour and discuss bicycle facility design and planning options in the 50’s streets of Northeast and Southeast Portland. Ride meets at Park Elementary School, information on how to RSVP can be found here.

12:00pm – 6:00pm: Framebuilder’s Garage Sale
At Ira Ryan Cycles workshop. Stop by the sale where several Portland framebuilders will be selling overstocked parts, frames and other cycling goodies for great prices. There will also be a keg of beer on hand free to anyone who buys from a builder. Buy a crankset, get a beer. Buy a bike, get a couple of beers. Some of the items for sale include a Chris King wheelset, a handbuilt track frame, SRAM force cranksets, some misc. Rapha clothing, Sidi shoes and some Nitto handlebars. In the alley behind 7331 N. Knowles.

Sunday, October 17th

8:50am-3:00pm: Cross Crusade #3
Feeling tempted yet? I know I am. This week’s sweat-and-soil session goes down at the Sherwood Forest Equestrian Center in Sherwood, OR.  Check out registration and course info on the Cross Crusade website.

9:00am: Eurand CF Cycle for Life
Join the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on this scenic tour through the wine country around Yamhill, OR benefiting research and advocacy to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Ride is fully supported with lunch and rest stops. See event site for registration, location and route information.

9:30am-7:30pm: Clackamas County Cruise
Explore the world of outer Southeast Portland on this “epic” all-day ride hosted by the Urban Adventure League and local Portland Unique-ist Carye Bye. This free group ride meets at the Vera Katz statue on the Esplanade and visits wonders of Lake Oswego, Oregon City, and West Linn.
