Bollywood!

There’s a lot going on this weekend and we’ve got another great guide to help you make the most of it.  From Bollywood to baked goods, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

Thursday, September 16th

8:00pm: Bollywood Bike-in
It may not technically be a weekend event, but this Bollywood-themed bike-in movie night at the Q center is just too cool to skip over, and the weather should be great for an outdoor flick. Organized by local  favorite, DJ Anjali, this month’s film is the 1980 classic ‘Qurbani‘.

Friday, September 17th

12:00pm: Park(ing) Day Tour and Lunch
The annual event known as Park(ing) Day celebrates reclaiming streets by taking over on-street car parking spots and converting them into people-friendly mini-parks for the day. Join Pedal Bike Tours on a free tour of Park(ing) Day sites and Lunch hosted by Hotel Monaco. Ride meets at Hotel Monaco, 506 SW Washington. Saturday, September 18th

9:00am: Graham Oaks/Tonquin Trail Bike Ride
The City of Wilsonville and SMART Transit wants to showcase Graham Oaks Nature Park and they’re hosting a short, family-friendly bike ride to do it. The ride is 6 miles long and features Graham Oaks, Coffee Lake Natural Area and potential segments of the future Tonquin Trail. The ride ends back at the Graham Oaks Park grand opening celebration. Meet at the CREST Trailhead (11265 SW Wilsonville Road) at 9:00am sharp. RSVP to Jeff Owen at walkandbike[at]ridesmart.com.

9:30am-12:00pm: Volcano Bike Tour
Another great ride by the folks at the East Portland Action Plan, this tour takes you to and shows you around some volcanic buttes in the area. A great way to explore East Portland and meet some of its great people.  Ride meets at Ed Benedict Park, SE 104th Ave and Bush St.

10:00am-4:00pm: Grand Central Bakery Fair
Come enjoy a bakery fair, urban farming expo, and bicycle rodeo at the North Fremont location of Grand Central Bakery. The day’s festivities will include events for the family and great insight and information about urban farming. Tickets are $5/adult, $3/child or $10/family and are available at any Grand Central location.

2:00pm-6:00pm: Bikeasaurus Grand Opening Party
Another exciting new bicycle business startup, Bikeasaurus features handmade and local bicycle accessories and art in their new storefront on SE MLK Jr. Blvd. (See our previous coverage of their cycle shrine here.) Come join them for a free grand opening party at SE Madison and 3rd under the Hawthorne Bridge featuring “Bike, Fun, Food, Art”.

3:00pm-5:00pm: Gay for Bikes
This monthly event is an opportunity for the local gay community to meet and ride to and discover some of Portland’s great LGBQT resources. Ride begins at SW Park Ave and Mill St and ends at Friend’s Coffee in SE Portland. This month’s theme is “strike a pose” so bring a camera to capture the memories.

Saturday and Sunday: Hood River Double Cross
Come enjoy two full days of cyclocross in Hood River, OR featuring races for all ages and categories, a swap meet, and beginners clinics. Register day of event, location and schedule details can be found on the OBRA website.

Sunday, September 19th

10:00am: Bike Temple Field Trip to The Grotto
Another joint excursion by the museum lady Carye Bye and local bicycle religion experts, the Bike Temple, this group ride will make the pilgrimage out to the 62 acre Catholic shrine and botanical gardens in NE Portland known as the Grotto. Wander the labyrinth and picnic on site with your bicycle brothers and sisters. Ride meets at Elevated Coffee, 5261 NE MLK Blvd.
