That’s right, it’s a weekend so epic it begins on a Thursday. There’s only so much summer left, so treat yourself to as much music, food, scenery and merriment while you can.
Thursday, August 26th
5:00pm-9:00pm: Kalkhoff Bikes Party
Head to the Kalkhoff Bikes showroom in the Pearl District for this German-themed party featuring beer, freshly grilled bratwurst, and special deals for attendees. RSVP by calling or emailing the Kalkhoff showroom.
6:30pm-8:00pm: Equity Ride
Join ODOT, The Audubon Society of Portland, Bicyclists of Color, Community Cycling Center, East Portland Action Plan, Friends of Trees, and the Portland Bureau of Transportation on a ride on and around the I-205 bike bath as representatives from each group show you neighborhood projects in the area that their organizations are involved with that focus on equity. Ride meets at the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization at 10301 NE Glisan.
Friday, August 27th
7:00am-9:00am: Breakfast on the Bridges
It’s time once again for our beloved morning tradition, Breakfast on the Bridges. Come grab free coffee and breakfast on the Hawthorne Bridge and Steel Bridge lower deck on your way to work and meet your fellow commuters and the faithful volunteers and donors who make it happen every month.
6:00pm: Stumptown Bike Poster Show and Square Dance
A good ol’ fashioned square dance party featuring a live band and a bicycle poster show, hosted by friends of the bike community, Stumptown Printers. Dance starts at 7:00, and all poster sales benefit the Bicycle Transportation Alliance. 3925 N Mississippi Ave.
10:30pm: North Freak Monthly Mystery Ride
Join the rolling party hosted by the North Freak Cycling Collective this Friday featuring tall, freak, mini, and yes, even normal bikes. Bring your sound systems, lights, and favorite refreshments. Meet at 10:30 at Irving Park and ride out at 11.
Saturday, August 28th
7:00am: Beaverton, Banks, and Beyond
Enjoy a fully supported 64 or 32 mile scenic loop through Washington County, through Stub Stewart State Park to the Hilltop day use area, featuring amazing scenery and a pizza lunch at the finish point. Ride starts and ends at Papa’s Pizza at 15700 Blueridge Drive in Beaverton, register online or at 6:30am day of event.
7:00am Amici di Giacomo (Friends of Jack)
Held in beautiful White Salmon, Washington. This 30-mile ride will explore the east end of the spectacular Columbia River Gorge. Post-ride party with delicious food, a variety of beverages to quench your thirst and great live music. Also hosting an auction that will feature some fantastic items and services. Plan to make a day of it. (bring your picnic blanket or favorite lawn chair!).
Registration starts at 7am. Ride starts at 9am. Food and band starts between 11:00 am and noon. Silent auction will follow around 1pm after everyone is off the course.
This year, the Amici di Giacomo will benefit Jack Toland, but next year the money will go to someone else (or perhaps be spread among several people in need). You can learn more about the ride from our recent coverage and you can contribute and register at FriendsofJack.org.
12:00pm-10:00pm: Hopworks Biketobeerfest
Come check out this car-free festival of bikes and beer presented by Hopworks Urban Brewery featuring Live bands, goldsprints, BMX trick competitions, and more. $2 admission goes directly to the Bicycle Transportation Alliance and Portland Sunday Parkways. HUB is located at 2944 SE Powell, ride out anytime or join Portland Bicycle Tours on a group ride to the party leaving at 5:00pm from the Salmon Street Fountain. 4:00pm-10:00pm: Backyard Blam Presents Holeshot
Backyard Blam is throwing a party at the new Portland Design Works space at 15 NE Hancock. Holeshot will feature a cycle speedway, bicycle tractor pull, and a screening of the Disposable Film Festival.
Sunday, August 29th
11:00am: Kruger’s Kermesse Farm Crit
A break from the typical urban criterium, the Kruger’s Kermesse will take place on the hard-pack dirt roads of Sauvie Island. Open to all skill levels and spectators, this event will feature a beer garden, live music, and fresh, grilled food options. Kruger’s Farm is located at 17100 NW Sauvie Island Road, registration available online or day of event.
