Another packed calender and a sunny forecast means plenty of bike fun options for everyone.  Head downtown to watch some sunset racing, enjoy some good, old-fashioned, biking circus merriment on the waterfront, and have a ball with the whole family at Sunday Parkways. 

Friday, August 13th

4:00pm-9:00pm: Portland Twilight Criterium
This exciting evening race through the streets of downtown Portland draws in teams from all over the country to compete.  Featuring a handbuilt bike show, food carts, and beer gardens.  Free to attend, bike parking at NW Park and Flanders.

Saturday, August 14th

9:30am: Parkrose Farmers Market Bike Tour
The East Portland Action Plan bicycle subcommittee is leading this free group tour of the east Portland to the Columbia river, then back to the Parkrose Farmers Market.  A great way to experience cycling in East Portland and get involved with EPAP.  Tour meets at Parkrose Middle School, 11800 NE Shaver.

11:00am-5:00pm: New Belgium Tour de Fat
This annual celebration of bikes, beer, and fun converges on Waterfront Park Saturday morning and features a bike parade, a slow ride, a chance to trade in your car for a bike, and of course, plenty of beer.  Free to participate, beer sales and donations benefit the BTA and NW Trail Alliance.  Registration for the bike parade begins at 10:00am.

12:00pm-8:00pm: Longview Grand Prix Criterium
Those looking to get out of town can take a short trip up to Longview, WA for this all-day racing event.  Categories for everyone from kids to pros will compete all day on this fast and flat course, ideal for beginners and intermediates.   Details and registration info on the Highlander Cycling website.

Sunday, August 15th

6:30am: Lancette Memorial Ride
A benefit for Clackamas Woman’s Services celebrating the life of Teresa Beiser, this ride features the option of a 25 mile or metric century ride, and a shorter family ride around SW Portland.  Registration and route info can be found on the ride website.

10:00am: Alpenrose Heartbreaker
Come out to the Alpenrose Velodrome for a full day of track racing. The Heartbreaker is the annual event from the Gentle Lovers cycling team and is sure to be a fun-filled day for spectators and racers alike.

10:00am-3:00pm: Southeast Sunday Parkways
The fourth installment out of five 2010 Portland Sunday Parkways events, this weekend’s route connects a 6 mile loop of inner-southeast streets and converts them into car-free heaven.  This month’s route features a rider skills workshop for kids, the car-free Hawthorne street fair, and many more things to see and do at Colonel Summers, Laurelhurst, and Sunnyside parks and on the streets in between.
