Event Description: The biking and baking enthusiasts of Grand Central Bakery are putting a city spin the classic county fair with the first annual Grand Central Bakery Fair: An Urban Farming Expo and Bicycle Rodeo. The one-day event will be held at our 714 N Fremont location, from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, September 18. Forget hoofed livestock, Portland’s favorite 2, 3 and 4-wheeled animal, the bicycle, will be the focus of competitions, judging and 4-H style showmanship!

Demos and contests celebrating the community’s love of baking, preserving and backyard farming plus an address by guest speaker, author and urban farmer Novella Carpenter, will be surrounded by events that rally bikes of all ages throughout the day. Sign up for the Family Bike Repair Relay, Bicycle Costume Competition, Newspaper Toss, Slow Race — or all four. Volunteers from the Community Cycling Center will be on hand to share bike skills and practice safety with cones in the event’s Kids Corral at neighboring Boise-Eliot schoolyard. And an essay contest inviting entrants to respond to the question, What does your bike say about you?, will get the wheels in your head turning on your next ride. A helmet, bicycle and positive attitude toward clowns are required to participate in all rodeo events!

A small admission fee ($5/adult, $3/child or $10/family) gives you access to all the fun. Meet fellow biking and urban farming enthusiasts at the Bakery Fair and Bicycle Rodeo, a fundraiser for the Community Cycling Center and Zenger Farm. Visit the Bakery Fair page on Grand Central’s website for a complete event schedule and more details about the contests.
