Will this be the last sunny weekend of the year? Better not risk it. There’s a ton to do, whether a freakbike festival, a rural century, a fashion show, or a good day’s work with a pick-axe is more your style.
Friday, October 9
5:00pm: Freak Bike Fall Alleycat
Freak Bike Fall gets kicked off with an alleycat race. Bring your freak bike and meet at Dawson Park, N Williams and Stanton.
7:00pm – 11:00pm: Bike Temple Grand Opening Celebration
The Bike Temple has grown up quickly since we last wrote about the organization, and is throwing a party to celebrate moving into its new space at the Lotus Seed Ashram, NE 9th and Going. On the schedule: “Services”, blessings, and tours from 7:00-9:00pm (family friendly), and later “Communion” (beer), “fellowship” (fun), and a ride to the Midnight Mystery Ride.
9:00pm – Midnight Mystery Ride, Freak Bike Fall edition
Meets at the Lucky Devil Lounge. Yes, that is a strip club. There will be a photographer, a costume contest, a freak bike beauty contest, and jousting. Ride leaves at midnight for a mystery destination.
Saturday, October 10
7:00am: Harvest Century
The Harvest Century is the last big, organized ride of the season, with 100, 75, 45, and (for the kiddos) 3 mile route options out in the beautiful farmland of Washington County.
I know we like to see more useful
spaces and less parking lots.
9:00am – 4:00pm: Depaving Day at Holy Redeemer
It’s Depave’s final summer event, so if you’ve been wanting to tear up some asphalt now is the time. The day will be spent removing 2500 sq ft of asphalt from the Holy Redeemer Church and Catholic School parking lot as the first step of the school’s ambitious plan to disconnect downspouts, create swales with native plants to infiltrate roof runoff, and create a community garden and an outdoor learning space. Just bring your work gloves to 127 N. Rosa Parks Way at the corner of N. Vancouver Avenue
9:00am – 12:00pm: Division Streetscape Design Workshop
Provide input on the streetscape design options for the project area (SE 11th to 39th Avenue). Options include stormwater management, pedestrian crossings, parking, bike facilities, trees, public art locations, electric vehicle charging stations, outside table seating and more. Workshop is at St. Philip Neri, Carvlin Hall, 2408 SE 16th.
3:00pm: Ready to Roll Cycling Lifestyle Fashion Show
Momentum Magazine has teamed up with Oregon Manifest, Portland Fashion Week, and Team Beer to put on one of their famous bicycle fashion shows here in Portland. Vigor Industrial Shipyards at 5555 N Channel Ave (on Swan Island). Show is followed by a ride to the Concours d’Elegance.
7:00pm: Concours d’Elegance
A fashion event where the crowd holds the stars — and the judges. Get yourself and your bike dressed in your formal best and come join the action at the Oregon Manifest Bike Union, 539 NW Hoyt.
Sunday, October 11
9:00am: Cross Crusade Series Race #2
The first race this year in the epic Cross Crusade series was the biggest in the world. The second, in Rainier, should be just as fun and maybe even more muddy.
3:00pm: Freak Bike Special Olympics
Competetions include: best trick, open class; tall bike musical chairs; slowest tall bike race; blind biker, dizzy switch-off race; open flag race soda (four loko) chug; egg & spoon race; ‘pie’ jousting. 13th and Alder, Hawthorne Bridge if it’s raining.
