Thursday, September 10
5:00pm – 7:00pm: Car-Free Happy Hour
Monthly social networking meetup for people who live carfree, do work that helps reduce car use, and/or the carfree-curious. On the second Thursday of each month. New location at Amnesia Brewing at 832 N Beech (at Mississippi).
5:30pm: Third Annual Woodlawn to Swifts Ride
Meet at Good Neighbor Pizza at NE 8th and Dekum; ride leaves at 5:45 for Northwest Portland to watch the swifts fly down the chimney just before sunset at Chapman Elementary. Bring a blanket and a picnic.
6:00pm – 8:00pm Bike Camping 102: Winter Camping
A free class covering the basics of off-season bike camping, including where to go, how to handle the weather, and why this might actually be a lot of fun. At theHawthorne Hostel, 3031 SE Hawthorne Blvd (Bike parking in back, enter through back door in yard).
Friday, September 11
9:00pm: Benefit party for hospitalized cyclist
Help support Dan, and his wife and three-year-old daughter, as he struggles with bills after a bad bike crash with an intoxicated rider. $5 requested donation covers bands, beer, dancing, and karaoke. At Circadia 4705 NE Columbia. The event flyer is here.
11:00pm: Midnight Mystery Ride
Meet at 11:00 at Old Town Pizza’s northern location, 5201 MLK. Eat, drink, and then ride at midnight. Super patriotic attire requested. Bring your own non-disposable cup.
Saturday, September 12
8:45am: Cycle the Springwater
A flat, mellow-paced ride with lots of stops along the way to learn about the Springwater Trail and the Johnson Creek watershed. One way or round-trip. Meet at Tideman Johnson Park, SE 37th Ave and Tenino St.
10:30am: Bakeries of East Portland Bicycle Ride
A 13 mile slow and easy loop (with a shorter option) through the diverse array of baked goods from around the world available in outer east Portland. Bring some cash for treats. Meet at the entrance (north side) to the Gateway Transit Center Park and Ride.
10:30am: Over the River and Through the Woods: Move by Bike
A long, hilly, cross-town bike move from the slopes of Mt Tabor to Forest Park. Brunch at 10:30, packing begins at 11:00, and the move is followed by a well-earned picnic in the woods. Starting point is at SE 64th and Franklin.
7:00pm: Wend Magazine Mini Bike Cyclocross Race and Benefit Party
Wend Magazine is throwing a big party to celebrate the start of the ‘cross season and to benefit Defenders of Wildlife. Free to dance and drink beer, $10 to race your child size bike around the indoor ‘cross set-up while dressed as a wild animal. At the Lizard Lounge, NW 10th and Hoyt.
Sunday, September 13
9:00am: Tour de Lab
A bike tour of all the Lucky Lab brewpub locations. 18 mile and 30 mile course options, followed by beer. A benefit for the Dove Lewis Animal Hospital. Register at TourdeLab.com.
9:45am: Portland Bridges Ride
Meet under the west end of the Fremont Bridge (1750 NW Naito Pkwy) for a guided tour of 10 Portland bridges. Klaus will tell you a bit about each bridge, from the Fremont to the Sellwood and back. Followed by lunch.
6:00pm: Backyard Blam Bicycle Jam
An outdoor bike event that promises a pump track, sprinting, quick stops, sweet jumps, yelling, and prizes! 528 N Ivy, no entry fee.

Pain on the Peak and Sufferin’ on the Summit
Saturday’s Pain on the Peak cyclocross race and Sunday’s Sufferin’ on the Summit mountain bike race provide a fun-packed, OBRA-endorsed venue for tormenting your nerve endings in the southwest hills.
