This weekend, the forecast ranges from hot to scorchingly hot.

In other words — perfect weather to be out on your bike. Pack some extra water and check out some of these events that have come onto our radar:

Thursday, July 23

BikePortland Inner SE Get Together
Join us at the Green Dragon (928 SE 9th Ave) from 5-7pm for beer, food and conversation. This is a chance to meet people and learn about SE Portland bike stuff from experts, artists, business people, planners, activists, etc… Very informal. Just come on down and heckle us, pitch us stories, plug your events, whatever.

Parent-Kid Biking Workshop (Session One of Two)
Meet at the SE Hawthorne Lucky Lab at 5:30 for a roundtable discussion with other parents, caregivers and kids about riding on the street. What works? What doesn’t work? Co-hosted by the BTA and Clever Cycles. Tips will be collected and put into a printed resource. (See below for Session Two.)

Urban Bike Orienteering Race
This event tonight looks seriously fun. A fundraiser for dragonboat team the Anniemaniacs, this scavenger hunt style race lasts 90 minutes and begins at 7:00pm at the NW Lucky Lab Beer Hall (1945 NW Quimby).

Friday, July 24

Friday Evening Picnic on an Island
Meet at the Hayden Island Safeway to stock up and then roll out around 5:45 for a picnic on a little-known sandy beach in the Columbia.

Saturday, July 25

Forest Park Outreach Session
Join members of the Northwest Trail Alliance (formerly PUMP) and be an ambassador for bicycles in Forest Park. As part of this event, you will connect with cyclists and other trail users in the park to educate them about proper trail etiquette, volunteer opportunities, and updates on planning efforts underway in the park. Meet at 9am at the Top of Firelane 7.

Bicycle Real Estate Tour: Sellwood
Let local, bikey real estate agent Kirsten Kaufman buy you a cup of coffee and take you on a bicycling tour of houses on the market in the laid-back, eminently walkable and bikeable Sellwood neighborhood. Meets at 10:00am at Mocha Momma’s, 6116 SE Milwaukie Ave.

Tour de Cure
A ride to raise funds for diabetes research. Four different ride options, from 10 to 100 miles. You can find out more and register online here.

Sunday, July 26

Parent-Kid Biking Workshop (Session Two)
Meet at Clever Cycles (908 SE Hawthorne Blvd) at 11:00 am for a short ride through Ladd’s Addition to test out the tips and suggestions learned from Thursday’s conversation (see above). Ride will finish at Abernethy Elementary with riding games and a potluck picnic.

Easy Riders: Sandy River Soak
It’s slated to be nearly 100 degrees on Sunday, a perfect opportunity to join the Easy Riders on one of their rambling, leisure-oriented rides — this one to a swimming spot out on the Sandy River. Meet at the Cleveland Ave MAX station in Gresham — start gathering at 10:30am, ride at 11:00am.

Big Gay Bike Ride
A fun, social ride for queer people who like bikes and ice cream. The ride will head out to Rose’s Ice Cream on NE 42nd, to investigate rumors that it’s the best ice cream in town. 2:00 to 3:30pm, meet at the Q Center at 4115 N Mississippi.

Plug more events and discuss your weekend plans in the comments section. We’ll post an open thread tomorrow afternoon for your tales of adventure in hydration and tan lines.
