Here’s a quick recap of a few events this past weekend.
Friday night I rolled across the I-5 Bridge to catch the tail end of the opening night reception for “Bike Love,” a showing of bike art at Angst Gallery on Main Street in Vancouver.
With a canary yellow bakfiets and many other bikes parked out front, it wasn’t hard to find. Hanging in the window I noted a street sign that read — “Boulanger Bikeway”. Angst Gallery is owned by Todd Boulanger’s partner Leah Jackson (Todd is a former transportation planner for the City of Vancouver was recently laid off amid budget woes).
Once inside, I was happy to hear that the night was a big success. Leah said the place had been jam-packed.
Highlights for me included a huge, four-panel stencil painting by Anthony Baysore,
a sweet little piece by six-year old Melayna Campos,
and this very well-done bike-truck by Matthew Vilhauer and Karl Vonn Bohmann.
Other artists with notable pieces at the show include Sara Stout, Erin Gallagher, Tiago DeJerk, Matt Cardinal and Morgan Torngren-Tatman. Bike Love runs through June 27th. See more photos here.
Saturday morning I took my 3 1/2 year old daughter down to see the Grand Floral Parade. It was pretty much the same as years past, except for one thing; Mayor Adams, his friends, and his staff eschewed the usual ride in a convertible and rode bikes instead.

The second annual Blessing of the Bikes was held on Sunday. I didn’t make it this year, but The Oregonian published a great story and video of the event. Watch the video below:
