Finally! I’m up and running again

Whew. That was rough.

As many of you noticed, BikePortland.org has been down since Monday afternoon.

I won’t bore you with the technical details, but here’s what happened in a nutshell. I was on my way to a record day in traffic (I guess people like photos of naked cyclists) when my server crashed (I didn’t learn my lesson). Then I changed to a dedicated server…and it crashed too. Then I changed to a new host (and a new dedicated server) and now everything is pretty much back to normal.

I would have never been able to solve this problem on my own. Technical problems with the site quickly go beyond my level of understanding. But luckily, an angel named Selena Deckelmann pedaled along to offer amazingly astute assistance (with a smile).

Selena — who happens to be the IT Manager at Chris King Components — was like a battle scene medic, picking up my fallen site and stitching it back together with calm, calculated steps.

Thank you Selena! And thanks to everyone who called and emailed to offer support and condolences.

There might still be a few glitches, but hopefully not too many. And if you emailed me in the last two days, you might want to try again.

OK, now back to your regularly scheduled programming…
