The North American Handmade Bicycle Show just wrapped up with a big announcement and an awards ceremony.

NAHBS Day 2
[Pereira and his
“Roaring 29er” mountain bike.]

Two local Portland builders — Tony Pereira of Pereira Cycles, and Joseph Ahearne of Ahearne Cycles — scored major recognition for their building skills.

Pereira was the big winner of the night with three awards. His “Roaring 29er” cruiser-inspired mountain bike took home the awards for Best Fillet Brazed Bike and Best Off-Road Bike. Tony also took home the Best Road Bike trophy with his pinstriped, 1950s style randonneuring bike. Check out Tony’s photo gallery of this bike on PereiraCycles.com.

Ahearne was honored with the Best City Bike trophy for his magnificent “Ms Michaels” mixte, which I wrote about yesterday.

I couldn’t think of a more exciting way to end my trip in San Jose. Our local boys did us very proud. They all showed some of the most beautiful and creative bikes in the entire show.

oops….I’ve got a plane to catch!…
