This Sunday is your chance to take in one of the finer pleasures of Portland’s bike culture. Artist, historian, and urban lore afficionado Shawn Granton will lead the Wintertime Palm Tree Ride.
Shawn and his Urban Adventure League are well-known in bike circles for leading interesting and informative rides that give participants insight behind seemingly mundane facets of our city.
His Eastside Theater History Bike Tour is the stuff of legend and he even sometimes makes ‘zines to go along with his rides.

In addition to his love of Portland’s urban culture, Shawn is a tremendous artist whose portfolio of bike art can be viewed as a running history of Portland’s grassroots bike culture. He is the man behind the posters, flyers, and zines that have publicized many events over the years including; Pedalpalooza, Filmed by Bike, RU Bridge Curious, Mini Bike Winter and more.
Tomorrow you can join Shawn and what I’m sure will be a bright-eyed bunch of cyclists for the Wintertime Palm Tree Ride which he describes as,
“a bicycle ride passing by the multitude of palm trees and other tropical and evergreen vegetation growing in the city, plus all the fun factoids that the Urban Adventure League is known for.”
