  • Now this is a ride I wish I’d been on. Thanks to Aaron for the report and photos (unfortunately he got a silly ticket while on the ride!):

Today’s architecture ride set off with an amazing start. About 50 people joined in at Women’s Park behind the Portland Building. Carl was our professor for the afternoon while we discussed Portland’s Architecture and Urban Planning.

We started with the history of the Portland Building and Post-Modernism. We then compared it to modernism and brutalism. We looked at several of the wonderful fountains designed around the ‘tower in a park’ philosophy. Carl shared with us the philosophy behind the urban park development.

We then enjoyed a critical mass across the Hawthorne Bridge and up to Ladd’s Addition where we talked about the urban design of that neighborhood and nearby buildings. We headed back to Hawthorne where my photo-documentary was put to an end by ‘da man.’
