  • Amy, Bethany and the Mocktails volunteer crew were out on the Hawthorne Bridge last Friday to serve drinks and snacks to homebound commuters. This is the after-work version of the well-known Breakfast on the Bridges tradition started by Shift to Bikes.

We had a surprise visit from three bike cops who stopped to chat and take a break from their patrol. Amy chatted them up and made them feel welcome.

Ian Stude from the PSU Bike Shop stopped by to do free bike tune ups.

City of Portland Bike Program manager Roger Geller stopped by to enjoy some of the fruits of his labors.

There was also a Breakfast on the Bridge event on the other side of this same bridge earlier in the morning. I met John Munson who had stopped there and was now stopping again for a drink on the way home. How cool is that? Two times in one day you get free snacks and drinks from volunteers just for riding your bike!

Update: I just came across this fantastic photo by Dat Nguyen. It captures the Burma-Shave signage attempt of Mocktails volunteers.
