Wonk Night: Bike Parking Code Update

September 24, 2018 at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Portland’s bike parking code is 20 years old. It’s time for an update!

–> How many electrical outlets for e-bikes should be required?
–> Are hooks on a wall good enough?
–> How much space is needed for large cargo bikes?
–> How can we make sure great bike parking is available to everyone including service industry workers, renters, affordable housing residents — and not just VC-backed high-tech companies?

BikePortland and Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) are working together to make sure the new code improves the cycling experience and helps encourage more people to ride.

That’s where you come in: Please join us for a night of wonderful wonkery that will help inform the bike parking of tomorrow.

Bring your best ideas, questions, examples from other cities, and an open-mind. We’ll provide city staff to harangue (kidding!), snacks and drinks.

As with past Wonk Nights, you can expect an evening of informal yet illuminating conversations where everyone’s voice is welcome and respected. The discussion will be moderated by BP publisher & editor Jonathan Maus.

A special thanks to our friends at Fat Pencil Studio for hosting and sponsoring this event!

P.S. We hosted a Bike Parking Wonk Night in 2013 that laid some of the foundation for this code update. Pat yourselves on the back and come out on 9/24 to finish the job!
