Stand Up And Ride Against Racism
June 27 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Saturday, repeating until July 4, 2020
Join your fellow classmates and community, as we bike, walk, and stroll together in a unified demonstration against the violence, death, and systematic, institutional racism against Black men, women, and children.
June 27th – Boise-Eliot Elementary (620 N Fremont) to Sabin Elementary (4013 NE 18th)
July 4th – Sabin Elementary (4013 NE 18th) to Irvington Elementary (1320 NE Brazee)
1pm: Gather at originating school (Boise-Eliot on the 27th, Sabin on the 4th) where we’ll hand out route maps and then start heading to our destination school.
At our destination school, please take the time to talk with your children and leave chalk messages on the school yard in support of racial justice.
— All families are welcome.
— Please wear or carry signs.
— Let Portland know where you stand. Commit to displaying signs of solidarity year round on your house, car, and bike.
— Covid-19 threatens Black and brown communities at higher rates. We need to take care of each other. Masks are required. Please maintain 6 feet.
— Stay home if you are feeling sick.
Remember: no bathrooms will be available.
This Ride/Walk/Stroll is not to take space from Black voices but to recognized that we must all take responsibility. We encourage all white and non-Black parents of color to commit to using this series of rides/walks as opportunities to hold ourselves accountable, not just on one day or one event, but an ongoing commitment to publicly sow up, to listen, to learn, to change, to donate, to act, and to teach our children.
