River City Bicycles Mt. Tabor Series
May 29 at 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until July 10, 2019
66 years of bike racing on the Volcano! This is one of the most challenging and fun race series of the year in beautiful Mt. Tabor Park, on the east side of Portland, Oregon.
The course is a tough, 1.3-mile hilly and curvy circuit that encircles the upper reservoir and passes by the neck of the ancient volcano that formed Mt. Tabor. Each lap has 136.6′ of climbing.
The River City Bicycles ‘Mt. Tabor Series’ is a points series with points awarded to the top 15 finishers in each race. Your best 6 finishes will be used to compute your overall points total for the series. The top 3 finishers overall in each category will receive prizes. There will be weekly primes in the form of Candy and/or Product.
Points go: 100, 70, 50, 40, 36, 32, 28, 24, 20, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11.
Double points for the last night.
FOR RACE FANS:
For a 67-year tradition, for a chance for your family to enjoy the park, for some of the best sunset-selfie opportunities in the entire city.
For seven consecutive Wednesday, you can enjoy Mt. Tabor – the shade, the trails, the playground, the views – car free. The occasion is the return of the Mt. Tabor Race Series, presented as always by River City Bicycles. Each Wednesday, bike racers tackle a challenging 1.3 mile loop around the reservoirs in several heats. Beginners, weekend warriors, and the occasional pro line up in turn, earning points each week towards the series championship.
The racing is challenging if you want it to be. The racers are amazingly accepting though, very willing to offer plenty of advice to newbies. Many have even gone so far as to capture video to help others know what you may be signing up for.
