KimmyCross is now in it’s 4th year! KimmyCross is a dedication to Kim Matheson, a dear friend and founding member of The BeerMongers Cycle Club. Come celebrate life, cycling, and the people we hold dearest on Sunday, December 9th at noon, in the parking lot of The BeerMongers Bottle Shop.
The nature of this type of race is that it’s a fly by the seat of your pants checkpoint race around the city. It’s an adventure! The distance and the route are determined by you and how you navigate from point to point and complete tasks. It is mostly on road but there will be sections of off road. No part of it will be dangerous or too difficult. Over the years we have seen folks ride everything from swing bikes to full suspension mountain bikes; all will work but a cross bike may be the best fit for this fun race. KimmyCross starts and ends at the BeerMongers. Winners will get their names engraved on the KimmyCup!
Kim was first diagnosed with Melanoma in June of 2014 and after some aggressive treatment she was cleared of cancer. In about a year’s time, her cancer came back and spread quickly throughout her body, taking her life on December 1st, 2015. She passed away with loved her ones at her side, and so many more of us keeping her in our hearts and our thoughts. She was a truly kind and inspiring individual. May we live our own lives in her honor: to the fullest and with sunscreen on.
Per Kim’s wishes, we are donating all proceeds to The Melanoma International Foundation. There is a $10 suggested donation. Please bring cash, credit, checks, sacks of pennies or whatever you have lying around! Your race fee is a donation to a very important cause. As always, we urge everybody to get an annual skin scan, wear sunscreen, and take care of your bodies.
