Illuminated Bike Ride
February 2, 2018 at 7:30 pm
Don’t let the winter weather and long darkness hold you back from meandering on your bicycle. Get out and ride the Portland Winter Light Festival’s 3rd annual Illuminated Bike Parade, February 2nd at 7:30pm. It’s a mildish 3 mile loop that starts and ends OMSI going over Tilikum Crossing and Hawthorne bridges. You’re STRONGLY encouraged to bling your bike out in lights above the usual head light and tail light. Last year a rider had blinking rocket thrusters on their rig! We had 25 cyclists show up and ride last year even though it was the day after an icestorm and one of the rainiest weekend last Winter. Help us defy mother nature by celebrating bicycling and light and build on that turnout for this year.
If you have friends/family that might need a bike for the parade, BIKETOWN will have bikes available for rent with bike wheel lights projecting distinctive light based art curated by the Winter Light Festival. Those bikes will be on hand at the Water and Clay Avenue BIKETOWN station before the parade. They’re also offering a 50% day pass discount through the festival weekend – LIGHTS18
Parade starts at 7:30pm, Friday, February 2nd at 7:30pm. We will meet in OMSI’s front courtyard off of Water Street and will return to that same location. More info can be found here: https://www.pdxwlf.com/illumbike
