Everyone’s Role in Transportation and Racial Equity

November 14, 2018 at 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Join us for lunch, networking and to hear from Marisa DeMull with Alta Planning + Design, Clay Veka with the City of Portland, and Duncan Hwang with APANO discuss everyone’s role in racial equity.

Addressing racial equity in transportation engineering and planning is a life or death problem that must be addressed. Too many people of color die on our nation’s roadways for reasons that can be prevented. Vision Zero planning and investments are a part of the solution but more can be done to address how engineers, planners and policymakers can ensure that transportation projects are not putting people of color in harm’s way. Come hear recommendations on how transportation engineers can prioritize racial equity from Marisa DeMull, Alta Planning and Design, discussion of how the City of Portland has prioritized racial equity in Vision Zero Action Planning and Implementation from Clay Veka and from Duncan Hwang of APANO about ways that communities of color have worked to advocate for better projects and policy solutions to prevent racial profiling and prioritize people of color’s needs.
