Portland Parks Board Hearing for Off-road Cycling Master Plan
April 3, 2018 at 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Want to mountain bike in Portland? We all do. It would be amazing to be able to roll out of our front doors and simply pedal to our local neighborhood park for a quick ride. That opportunity does not yet exist in Portland. But it can. You can help make that happen by showing up AND speaking up in public meetings. Every city meeting that mentions mountain biking arouses the anti-mountain bike crowd to disparage our community. You can have an impact by simply speaking for 30-60 seconds (or provide written in person comments) showing support for the plan.
Pertinent talking points include:
You love experiencing nature
You love protecting nature
Hiking and Mountain Biking have the same environmental impacts
Sharing trails works in many other localities
Safety while sharing trails is a priority
The ORCMP plan follows the best practices of the Forest Service, BLM, IMBA, and our local METRO organization.
Trail riding in town can exist in a safe, ecologically sensitive manner
PS. Be prepared to hear a lot of passionate testimony from opponents to the plan. Its OK. Be polite, nice, and thoughtful with comments. Just showing up to show solidarity is useful.
