Alice Awards – The Street Trust
September 24 at 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
This year, the Alice Awards will recognize Irene Marion and Kathy Wai. This event is FREE! Please register at www.thestreettrust.org.
Irene Marion is the Diversity + Inclusion Manager at the Portland Bureau of Transportation. Irene’s role is to guide and implement PBOT’s racial equity strategies to ensure that Portland’s historically underserved communities’ voices and needs are prioritized. PBOT’s Equity + Inclusion is currently focused on developing a transportation justice policy framework, establishing anti-racist training plans for PBOT’s workforce, facilitating community partnerships, and supporting COVID-19 response efforts.
Kathy Wai is one of the youngest Directors to be appointed to the TriMet Board by Governor Brown in 2018. Born in the Southeast Asian country of Myanmar, Kathy immigrated to the US with her family at the age of six. A first-generation college graduate, she attended Portland State University (Public Health B.S., Summa Cum Laude) and St. Mary’s Academy, traveling to and from school on TriMet. For more than a decade, Kathy has committed her life to building power for communities of color, immigrants, refugees, youth, and low-income Oregonians.
This year’s Alice will differ from past Alice Award events mainly due to our virtual format. In a year that has been so challenging to our supporters and partner organizations, we are adapting our program with safety in mind while continuing to raise needed funds to continue the work of The Street Trust. The 2020 Alice Awards program will include a brief pre-show at 5:30pm with the live stream broadcasting from 6pm to 7pm.
