A north Portland Sunday Parkways photo gallery

Sunday Parkways is such a powerful force for kids. Imagine: They can ride their own bikes in the street without fear. That’s no small thing.

The City hosted the second of five Sunday Parkways events yesterday. The north Portland route stretched from Peninsula Park on the southern end to McCoy Park in the north.

As always, the event drew a wide and wonderful mix of people. All ages, all sizes, all colors, all abilities. And of course there were tons of kids — especially at the dirt track adjacent to the Community Cycling Center’s Bike Repair Hub in the New Columbia neighborhood.

We were treated to live performances, all types of fun activities, conversations with friends, food, and safe, carfree streets

Here’s a taste of what I saw…

Even into its 11th year, people still turn out for these events. The crowd wasn’t massive, but it was definitely big:

Like I said, kids looove these dirt pump tracks (there are other ones at Ventura Park and Gateway Green). We really need to build many more of these around the city ASAP…

Seeing dogs on bikes just never gets old…

The cycling Stormtrooper was cool. He’s even got a special Stormtrooper bike and spandex biking shorts!

It was hot, but there was plenty of water along the route…

While my boy did 100 laps of the dirt track, I did some people-watching…

One of my favorite things about Sunday Parkways is seeing all the neat bikes…

The next Sunday Parkways is “Green Loop” edition that will roll around the central city on July 22nd. See the route brochure here.

This was such an awesome event and, unlike last year’s NoPo ride, it wasn’t 10,250.3 degF!

Thanks for the pictures.

We had a blast this year. My daughter was able to ride her pedal bike for her first Sunday Parkways. Ainsworth was wide and flat, which made it easy. She turns 3 in a few days!
