There’s a new nonprofit in town that specializes in giving bikes away to kids.
Free Bikes 4 Kidz (FB4K) started in Minnesota 10 years ago and has since expanded to seven cities including Atlanta, Madison, Salt Lake City, Eugene, Yakima, and Detroit.
Their first Portland event is scheduled for May 19th.

The group estimates they give away around 5,000 to 6,000 bikes a year. A statement released today says that they’ve set “multiple world records” including a one-day haul of 10,000 bikes.
Working with Providence Health, FB4K has set up 10 different locations around the region where people can drop-off used bikes. The bikes will then be cleaned up, refurbished, and distributed to kids in need through partner organizations.
FB4K joins several other local nonprofits who take donated bikes and refurbish them for others: including: Bikes for Humanity and the Community Cycling Center.

That is great to hear! Don’t forget BikeClarkCounty.org in Vancouver, WA also refurbishes bikes & donates them back to the community via avenues such as the YWCA shelter, Children’s Home Society foster care, and local school districts. Last year our holiday bike drive they assembled 600 bikes in one morning!
