Bike Milwaukie, a community group in Portland’s inner southern suburb, has been holding 12 to 13 rides a year since it formed in 2011 and is ready for a minor milestone: Milwaukie Mayor Jeremy Ferguson plans to join the ride this Sunday.

Ferguson, whose day job is supervising operations at Portland Streetcar, has served since 2009 and was reelected to a full four-year term in 2010. He’s been a successful proponent of extending TriMet’s Orange Line to central Milwaukie, which he aims to enrich with more human traffic.

Bike Milwaukie itself is the brainchild of Greg Bartz-Bowman and Matt Menely, who were inspired by Portland’s Sunday Parkways to start family-friendly social rides in their own city.

Also Sunday, participants can join a pre-ride warm up at 9 a.m. at The Warrior Room, Milwaukie’s kettlebell studio at 1928 S.E. Washington St. The ride itself starts at 9:30 at Milwaukie City Hall, 10722 S.E. Main St., and lasts two hours, finishing back downtown for Milwaukie Sunday Farmers Market. All Bike Milwaukie rides are “no-drop,” so no one gets left behind. You can see the route here, sign up for Bike Milwaukie’s mailing list on their website or get updates from their Facebook page.
