First-ever ‘SuperSwap’ promises party, products, films, and more

There’s a new bike event in town and it looks like it will hit the scene with a bang. SuperSwap is set for April 7th and its organizers have put together quite a line-up for bike lovers of all stripes.

Not just your average bike swap-meet, SuperSwap will feature both new and used parts, apparel, and other products from pre-selected vendors. Organizer Simon Robins, a copywriter and marketing consultant, has lined up a list of vendors that includes private bike collectors as well as top brands like Rapha, Poler, Beloved, Argonaut Cycles, Breadwinner Cycles, Hosmer Chiropractic, Trek, Bontrager and more. Company will offer samples and seconds at highly discounted prices and swappers will have used and hard-to-find items for sale.

The event will also host the 2nd annual Cross Crusade International Film Festival, “complete with orange [the official color of Cross Crusade] carpet arrivals.” And to add even more flair, Chrome is hosting a specially formulated BMX race that you will not want to miss. (So far all I’ve heard about is the word “insane” and that you should bring a friend.)

There will also be a well-stocked bar and foodcarts galore. What’s not to like?!

Robins said he figured a bike-crazy town like Portland needed something like a fun bike swap “with a party atmosphere.” “The idea spawned from riding with different people who I realized had nuggets in their basement,” he said during a chat on the phone today, “Things that are hard to come by like a rare [Eddy] Merckx frame or a collectible Dura-Ace crankset.”

Jeremy Dunn, the founder of much-respected bike magazine Embrocation and now a Rapha employee, is one of the vendors who’s tapped his personal collection of cool stuff to sell. He posted this image to Instagram as a teaser:

The event opens for earlybirds at 11:00 am with a $10 entry fee; but you can get in after 12 noon for free. It’s at Union Pine (525 SE Pine St) on Sunday April 7th. Check full details at SuperSwap.cc and buy tickets and/or register for a booth here.

If you like getting great deals on bike stuff, check out the Cycle Craft Trunk Show happening this Friday (3/15) at Velo Cult Bike Shop and don’t miss the big BTA BikeSwap at the Portland Bicycle Show March 23-24.

Excellent! Having too much stuff in my basement is how BikeSwap got started, too. On the high-end, we have lots of titanium-railed seats, a Campy ti cassette and Campy ti s/post, some new SRAM 10-speed components, new wool jerseys from Wabi Woolens, and more due to arrive. On the bargain end, we have the complete inventory of repair parts from Cycle Portland (aka Portland Bicycle Tours) and other odds and ends. On the quirky side, we have a side-by-side recumbent tandem. BTA BikeSwap is next weekend, March 23-24 at the Expo Center and it’s free with your entry to PDX Bicycle Show. The free “Better Living Show” is also happening at the Expo Center next weekend so you can do both shows the same day. BikeSwap benefits the BTA and the CCC. We will have all six of our Breadwinner prototypes for sale as well as a bunch of miscellaneous parts that have stacked up over the years. It’s going to be fun!
