Woman cited in collision on Hawthorne/Grand last night

This morning I heard from a few people curious to know more info on a collision that happened last night at SE Hawthorne and Grand.

Here are the details, as provided by the PPB:

08/29/12 @ 9:25 p.m.

SE Hawthorne Blvd & Grand Ave

Driver: Alexis R. Hay, 20 (female)
1990 Geo Storm 2dr, red
Cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device & Driving Uninsured

Cyclist: Kelly Hansen, 26 (female)
Black road bike

Vehicle NB on Grand in right lane, 30 mph, ran through light that changed from yellow to red. Cyclist EB on Hawthorne with green light, riding in bike lane with headlight, hit drivers side of car. Cyclist transported to hospital with injury to right arm. Vehicle towed, bicycle taken to cyclists house by police and left with roommate.

Do either of those citations come with penalties (financial or otherwise)?

I really believe all traffic violations should as needed be appended with the result of the violation, like “failure to obey a traffic control device; causing an injury collision” and the fine multiplied by some amount, say, 10x for injury, 25x for death.

Meanwhile enforcement dollars being spent ticketing cyclists for rolling Ladds stop signs, which poses very little threat to public safety. It’s a world gone mad.

I would have thought a bike accident would be on the front page…

I guess a broken arm isn’t enough of an injury to trigger the Vulnerable User Law… good to know it wasn’t worse…

Uninsured motorist? I’d vote to make sure that the car isn’t returned to the driver until the victim is “made whole” again.
