New bike shop coming to Oregon City

A new bicycle dealership is set to open in downtown Oregon City (13 miles south of Portland) this weekend. First City Cycles will have a soft opening this Saturday and a grand opening is planned for mid-August.

The shop will be located at 916 Main Street (the corner of 10th and Main) just a few blocks north of the eastern entrance to the Oregon City bridge. Store owner Blane Meier, says the shop will be a full-service dealer with bikes from Specialized, accessories, apparel, parts and service. Meier also says he’s lined up an impressive team for a new shop with seven employees set to serve the community.

At the store’s soft opening on July 21st, the first 100 customers will receive a 5% discount on all parts, repairs, and accessories. Through the end of August, the store is also doing $50 tune-ups (that’s $25 off the regular price).

The opening of this shop is a great sign of Oregon City’s continued growth. Back in June, the Portland Business Journal reported that the historic city has opened 41 new businesses in its downtown core since 2009. Many of those businesses are from the creative services industries like marketing, advertising, and multimedia. One CEO and Oregon City business booster who recently moved his business their told the PBJ, “We want to become the Pearl District of Clackamas County.”

First City Cycles will be open Monday through Saturday 10-7 and Sunday from 12-5. Follow them on Twitter at @FirstCityCycles or check out their website.

I would think the OC would be a good market for e-bikes… that’s a big hill to climb up to the new part of town, and the elevator only helps a small amount…

Very cool. The more bike shops in the smaller towns surrounding Portland the better.

“First City Cycles”?

But the owner, Blane Meier, could have named it “Meier & Crank.” (Sorry . . .)

Owner of an investment firm opening a bike shop?

Sorry, but I prefer to frequent bike shops with character, run by people who live, breathe, eat and sleep bikes. People with a real passion for what they do.

Not businessmen.
