Bike industry icon Gary Fisher will lead ride to Filmed by Bike

Gary Fisher, a member of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame who helped usher in the off-road era, is coming to Portland next month to help kick off the 10th anniversary edition of the Filmed by Bike festival.

Here’s the verbage from “Go With Gary” event organizers:

“How are you getting to the 10th Anniversary Filmed by Bike? Don’t go alone, Go With Gary, mt. bike legend Gary Fisher! Portland Bicycle Tours will lead to ride that valiantly winds through Downtown Portland and across the river on the way to the New Belgium Street Party at the Clinton Street Theater.”

Despite his off-road roots, these days Fisher is just as likely to be associated with urban bikes (his Gary Fisher Collection is made by Trek) and fashion. Fisher travels a lot and has become familiar with the great cycling cities of Europe. That experience has given him the confidence to raise his voice for bike advocacy in and around his San Francisco stomping grounds (where I met up with him back in 2008).

The Go With Gary! ride will happen on Filmed By Bike’s opening night, April 13th, and will meet at the downtown Bike Gallery (1001 SW 10th Ave). A social hour with free pizza (and a chance to check out Bike Gallery’s big spring sale!) starts at 4:00 and the ride to the Clinton Street Theater leaves at 6:00. More details at FilmedByBike.org.

10th anniversary of Filmed by Bike already…

This is one of the most Portland events that I can think of. I especially love the big party on Friday night of the event. The movies get better every year. Thanks FBB!

I remember going to one of the first FBBs at The Know on Alberta, way back when.

Speaking of Tenth Anniversaries, this year is the tenth anniversary of all the bike events that came out of Portland Bike Summer 2002, including Zoobomb and the Midnight Mystery Ride.

Zoobomb will be celebrating on Labor Day Weekend, so mark your calendars now!

Thanks for posting this, Jonathan. We’re really excited for this year’s festival – it is our best collection of movies yet. Tickets are now on sale and we recommend a festival pass (only $32) which gets you unlimited entry to the festival so you can see it all. Volunteers are needed and volunteers get in free.

PORTLAND: Don’t let Gary dress crazier than you! Prizes for every suit, glasses, and facial hair that trumps his!

There is no way to out crazy dress Gary. I had lunch with him at Interbike in Sept. and he showed up in a plaid tux. with knicker length pants. Gary is one of the most awesome dudes in the whole industry.
