If you want to join the state’s leading active transportation advocates, policymakers, and citizen activists at the 2nd annual Oregon Active Transportation Summit, mark your calendar for April 16-17th. Cycle Oregon (yes, they put on that big, great ride, but they also do a lot of behind-the-scenes, statewide bike advocacy work) announced information about the upcoming event today.

The event began as the Oregon Bicycle Tourism Summit and was first held in Eugene back in 2006. Last year, it changed gears with an expanded mission to coalesce forces with walking and public transit advocates in an effort to garner more resources and have a more powerful collective voice.

Continuing on that same note, event organizers (which includes staff from the Bicycle Transportation Alliance and other organizations) say this year the topical scope will expand even more.

This year’s two-day summit will include “points of emphasis” that fall into five main categories:

  • Economic Benefits
  • Advocacy
  • Planning, Technology and Tools
  • Funding
  • Equity and Social Justice

One of the most inspiring and informative aspects of the event are the speakers. The BTA has launched the official request for presentations to find the best and brightest active transportation minds from around the country.

The event will take place in the Salem Conference Center and costs $50 per person. Stay tuned to the official website for registration information.

i put in a proposal to make some kind of presentation around creating a UM/UIM fund for nonmotorists
http://www.scribd.com/doc/77508250/Proposal
ideally there would be a panel, including not only bike/ped advocates, but someone from the liability insurance world and an injury epidemiologist.

if anyone has any constructive suggestions, let me know, thanks.

You might want to check with AAA to see if there is something available for non-motorists
