Welcome to Thanksgiving morning!
The weather is actually dry (at least for now) and a bit less dreadful than it has been. If you aren’t out there already, I highly recommend getting out for a ride, whether it’s to enhance your appetite, burn off some of those turkey calories, or just to enjoy the very low-traffic streets.
Today is also a time to remember what we’re thankful for. Here at BikePortland, we’re thankful for you (our readers!), our contributing writers (Marcus, Tori, and Will), and of course our generous and loyal sponsors (without whom I’d have to get a real job).
We’re also thankful for all the citizen activists, volunteers, creative artists, bike business owners, and the many dedicated public employees (a.k.a. advocrats). Without all these folks, BikePortland would be a barren and boring place.
Now it’s your turn.
What bike-related stuff are you thankful for?
I’m thankful for this city I call home, for all the fellow two-wheeled travellers out there, and–at least in the past two weeks– for unemployment insurance. Keep rolling, friends!

I am grateful for our big, growing and fun-loving bike community in every part of the country. Thanks Jonathan for chronicling all that’s going on in Portland and around the world and happy tgiving to your growing family.
I am thankful for Sunday Parkways and the city’s embrace of public space for people, including parks, bicycle boulevards, Bridge Pedal, the list goes on…
I am thankful for the cycling community and our collective attitude to look out for each other, advocate (especially BikePortland.org, thanks Jonathon) and celebrate life on the bicycle.
Thankful for all the ways I can volunteer to enrich the overall community through cycling, such as the Community Cycling Center and Sunday Parkways.
I’m thankful for the drivers that watch for bikes, that don’t crowd me when passing, that accurately judge my speed and let me pass instead of trying to turn in front of me, that wave to me, and smile back when I wave to them for courteous driving.
Echoing a lot of the other people’s comments, I am also thankful for living in a city that promotes cycling and the citizens that by in large are very courteous to me when I am riding.

I’m thankful for rain pants
Thankful to WTF bikes for letting me use their pump. I believe they’re being forced to move to a new location but are continuing on – I hope things work out well for them.
I’m thankful that my bike is working well. For the people that give me plenty of space when passing me. I am thankful for my friends that are helping me out while in between jobs.
Thankful to start up my business, Builder By Bike. Only in Portland could I do this.
My family, sunny Winter days in Portland, amazing local microbrews, great trails, and the new Fox 36 fork I just installed on my mountain bike.
Bike Karma…catching the flat while rolling slow, not on that 40MPH downhill. Brake cables failing at non life threatning locations. Daily rides without angry motorist interactions. Convienent bike shops in every hood in P-town. No stolen bikes this year. Great pedal-palooza rides this year. BIKEPORTLAND.ORG!!!!! Thank you Mr. Maus!
I’m thankful that my first child, Finley Sage Smith arrived safely on 11-22-11 at Legacy Emanuel after it was clear that more than home birth resources were needed. And for the speedy recovery of my wife, plus the outstanding care she, he & I got while there, both from hospital staff and our midwife. Thank you, Portland, for being such an awesome place to have a baby!
thankful for the long line of human creativity that led to the invention and ongoing perfection of the bike; for two grown offspring who have largely escaped the clutches of car culture; for health; for my trusty 21-year-old bike; for all the riders and bloggers and thinkers supporting bikes; and much more
I am thankful for our ancestors sacrifices that made us into a free country.
The pilgrims that left Bloody Mary in search of a place where they could worship God in their own manner.
The soldiers that fought and sacrificed in the different wars, Revolution, cival…….
I am thankful we are free to disagree, can you imagine what it would be like if we couldn’t disagree?
I am thankful for people with strong moral values that set good examples others to do the right thing.
I am thankful that Obama got a “Christmas tree” and not a “Holiday tree”
I am thankful that Obama pardoned that thanksgiving turkey (even though he ate a different one instead, whats up with that?)
I am thankful when my posts don’t get deleted
I’m thankful for the safety and convenience of the rules of the road that reduce conflicts, provide a uniform, predictable flow of traffic while placing vehicles where drivers can see and understand them.
I’m thankful for the popular streets with traffic where I can learn to get along so well with other people with driving behavior.
I’m particularly pleased to have the acquaintance and great benefit of people with the healthy life-giving example of facing and overcoming life’s challenges so I can become a better healthier and stronger person thorough learning great bicycle driving.
