The weekend is right around the corner. We’re almost afraid to talk about the nice weather we’ve been having; but let’s hope some of this sun sticks around for the great events below.

We’re looking forward to a picnic and some great local bike racing at Mt. Tabor on Saturday, perhaps followed up by Sunday Parkways on Sunday. Yes, the summer cycling season is just getting warmed up. Check the events below and if we left anything out, feel free to shout it out in the comments.

Thursday, May 19th

    7:00 am – 10:00 pm:
5% Day for B-shares at Whole Foods Market in the Pearl
-B-Line leverages the sunken costs of their existing delivery routes to pick up and deliver surplus food to agencies providing food assistance. Whole Foods (Pearl) will donate 5% of the day’s sales to local bike delivery B-Line’s B-shares program.

Friday, May 20th

Bike to Work Day – While bike-to-work day may be everyday for you, this is the official day set aside to promote the simple choice on a big scale. I prefer the term used by one local marketing genius, “Bike From Work Day”. That could entice many more onto two wheels.

Saturday, May 21st

7:00 am: Reach the Beach More of a reminder since this fundraiser for the American Lung Association is sold out. But if you happened to be heading to Pacific City simultaneously, you would be with around 3,000 other folks on bikes which typically means good company.

8:00 am – 3:00 pm: Mt. Tabor Circuit Race – One of the best spectator events in town. Watch racers in multiple categories blast around the 1.3 mile paved loop. Bring a picnic blanket and friends.

10:00 am – 1:00 pm: Bike Fix it Fair at Marshall High — If you live in the neighborhood (south of Powell near I-205), roll over to Marshall High for a bike rodeo-type event put on by Impact NW. Free bike repair, bike safety games, $5 helmets, a raffle, and more.

In case anyone out there is interested in sponsoring a rider for “Reach the Beach”, I’m still raising money for the American Lung Association and would love your support. Anything helps, even $1!

Reach the Beach is on Saturday. You just set my heart racing because I’ve volunteered for that AND Sunday Parkways and thought I’d really messed up!

Dear JR,

Didja know that the link given above for Bike To Work Day on Friday goes …here? Back to this page?

It would be neat if Stumptown could support a regular Bike From Work Day on the model of Breakfast on the Bridges, or perhaps a roving site during Pedalpalooza to entice more fledgeling cyclists (with coffee, tea, goodies, entertainment, etc.) to check out all those happenings. Maybe a regular gateway thing to connect more riders to events outside of Pedalpalooza’s window.
