Video of the Week: Fun coverage of the World Naked Bike Ride

It’s a rare media outlet that can cover something like the World Naked Bike Ride with a good balance of professionalism and good-natured fun, but the crew at G4 TV seems to have done just that.

Their coverage (watch it below) of Portland’s 2010 World Naked Bike Ride features some familiar faces including “Route Czar” and frequent BikePortland commenter Matt Picio and prolific bike fun participant, gravity biker, and Hammercise co-creator, Dutch.

Here’s the video (possibly NSFW, depending on where you work):

Do we really have to wait another year? I’m pretty sure the cops fight to volunteer for this event.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that some of those people had been drinking.

Gabe Roth was the segment producer who spearheaded this. I was impressed that the message of the event made it through into the final cut, and that they captured the spirit of the event so well. Especially since they shot at least a couple hours’ worth of footage and condensed it down to less than 4 minutes.

Gabe and segment host Blair Herter are hoping to return to cover the event again next year. They’ll be looking for lots of fun people to interview again.

Kudos to Evan Ross and Halley the Harper, both of whom are featured on the segment but whose names were not credited on-screen. (?!?)

We had great fun helping them film this from the back of our pedicab. The longer route this year had us hustling all over to help them get these shots.

Last year, we helped a photographer from National Geographic, this year GTV, 2011 . . . ?

We are thinking in the future that all WNBR media passes should require at least partial disrobing for the camera guys. Of course, using the appropriate seat coverings 😉

Call us if you know anyone who is trying to film rolling bicyclists, our trikes are super stable filming platforms.

It’s a shame there wasn’t an easy way to put Portland Pedicabs into the piece. Great job! You’re all rock stars!

Pretty fair coverage that captured both the guiding message and playful silliness of the ride.

Marcus (#12) – And they used your count of 13,000 towards the end of the segment.

Thanks for performing the count, and posting both the results and the methodology – well done.
