We’ve all heard of people using GPS-enabled bike computers, but did you know some people are using them to create art? Leave it up to Pedalpalooza to bring this interesting new art form to Portland.
On last Friday’s GPS Art by Bike ride, several people took to the streets with their GPS units turned on and a vision in their head. The “Dog Pee” image above was created by Portland Ken Southerland (original link). It took home the top prize.
Another interesting entry was submitted by Jonathan “J.R” Reed. Here’s what J.R. sent to his dad for Father’s Day:
From a cursory Internet search, it seems GPS art was started by graffiti artist Vincente Montelongo in San Francisco.
I love it. It’s creative, it’s fun, it’s geeky, and it’s on a bike — perfect for Pedalapalooza and for Portland!

This was great fun! Matt and Max also teamed up to create this 1/180th scale outline of the BP oil spill as of that day, here’s the screen shot.

drawing lines on my gps is one of my favorite things to do while biking…
I wondered what that warm tingly sensation was… at least it was brief.
