Get any good bike stuff this Christmas?

Posted by on December 28th, 2009 at 12:17 pm

Eleni Maus loves her new bike.

At our house, not a Christmas goes by without some bike-oriented gifts being exchanged, and this year was no exception.

The marquee bike gift at our house this year was my daughter’s new bike (thanks to her Grandma). As you can tell in the photo, she’s thrilled (more on the bike coming in a separate post)! Also, at long last, I finally scored a high quality home repair stand (a Park PCS-10 to be precise).

Then there was this “Missing” bike shirt from Threadless that my brother gave me. Check it out:

Reader Andrew Plambeck shared his big bike gift via Twitter: “My folks found me a restored ’72 Peugeot Record du Monde single speed for Christmas. This is unbelievable.”

How about you? Did your bike wishes come true? We’d love to hear what bike gifts you scored this Christmas…

NOTE: We love your comments and work hard to ensure they are productive, considerate, and welcoming of all perspectives. Disagreements are encouraged, but only if done with tact and respect. If you see a mean or inappropriate comment, please contact us and we'll take a look at it right away. Thank you.

Santa brought me a new Salsa Fargo (got it a few days early and had to spend hours cleaning off enough mud to park it in the living room). I know exactly how Miss Eleni feels!

I got the Axa Defender rear frame lock (http://clevercycles.com/store2/index.php?pdetailimage=2521) and chain attachment (http://clevercycles.com/store2/index.php?pdetailimage=2519) for my 1953 Raleigh Sports: http://www.flickr.com/photos/poetas/4168904403/. Been wanting it for a while, now I don’t have to worry about carrying a separate lock around all the time. Wonderfully convenient.

My wife borrowed a bike from a friend and went for a ride with me on Christmas Day. This was huge, as she has been very bike-phobic and would not respond to my gentle encouragement to give it a try.

We actually spent most of our time in an empty parking lot riding around. She was a bit wobbly but did fine.

I’m thrilled and hope we can keep trying this in the months ahead.

We don’t do Christmas gifts in my family, so I bought myself a set of Minus33 merino woollies: socks, leggings, a base layer shirt, a big lumberjack shirt, and a bill-cap that fits under my Nutcase helmet. Rode all around in the Christmas day chill in perfect comfort.

New Raleigh “Clubman” road bike. Replaces my 1980s Centurion which got its frame and fork bent in a crash. Sniff. I’d had it since it was new.

A new bike for Xmas is just as great at age 57 as it was at age 11.

I got Alan the last parts (the tires) he needed for his pugsly build. Then he got to spend the entire day finishing the build, and then go for a super long ride the next day.

    Here’s the bike 🙂

And on that ’72 Peugeot, apparently it was found at a charity auction, so 100% of what they spent went to Community Partners for Affordable Housing!

Now we just need a Get Together so I can show her off….

I got some smartwool glove liners to keep my hands even warmer. They might have been even nicer a few weeks ago, though.

For my bike, I got the 600 Lumen Cygolite TridenX headlight, as well as the Crane Suzu brass bell from Clever Cycles. With those two additions, there’s no way you can’t notice my bike now.

A week before Christmas, my husband and I took the #17 bus out to Sauvie Island and then biked 35 miles to my parents’ house in Rainier (with Christmas presents in panniers). My mom was shocked that we would ride that far, but we’re gearing up for a bike camping trip to New Zealand in February. The ride was flat and easy, with lots of opportunities to stop for food.

As for actual presents, my hubby and I exchanged gifts from the bike fair. We bought each other patch kits from Edwin, and he gave me some nifty shoe lace wranglers.

Best bike gift – Dave and Mark over at River City gave me their new wool long sleeve black jersey with the red and yellow striped cuffs and collar Vintage looking, perfect thickness – I’ve been wearing it as a sweater/jersey most of the holidays – until Beth said it’s not a sweater if you wear it all the time – it holds up after repeated washings – Beth still says I need to give it a rest unless I’m on the bike… I’m gonna go put it back on right now 😉
Best gift you guys gave me is/was buying my new book in such numbers.

My roommate Donna got me a one-watt Bike Planet headlight–on flash it’s damn near seizure-inducing.

My roommate’s boyfriend Keith bought me a wind-up headlight from MEC (Canada’s version of REI). Not as bright as the Planet Bike light, but the batteries will never die! Plus it’s kinda fun to wind it up.

My boyfriend Shawn got me a warm hat with ears (made by Justa) and a cycle computer!

I’m still working on Shawn’s present–a handknit neck tube thing.
