Naked Ride Party organizers: Thanks, we’re in the black, and we’ll be back

World Naked Bike Ride - Portland-42

As a follow-up to our story yesterday, about volunteer organizers of the epic Pedalpalooza Kickoff Naked Bike Ride and Party not making enough from the event to cover the bills, comes this update (emphasis mine):

From the entire Pedalpalooza Kickoff Party organizing team, thank you for the monumental response in the way of thanks, offers to volunteer in future, and donations.

We are good financially, so save your donations for the frothy or caffeinating beverage of choice to help you glide through the rest of this delightful festival of bike fun.

Your comments and your generosity has been a true inspiration. Thank you, from the bottom of our naked, naked hearts.

This year’s World Naked Bike Ride was undoubtedly the world’s largest. The fact that we pulled off this feat with a loose-knit crew of all-volunteer organizers with no legal fines, a balanced budget, no severe injuries, and no arrests is a testament to the power of organized bike fun. It took the sweat and tears of 110 AWESOME volunteers and a core group of less than 10 volunteers to pull this off. To see this outpouring of support for this ride is awe-inspiring, and we hope that it turns into momentum to make next year even better.

Expect to see our petition to the Guinness Book of World Records soon.

Thank you.
And thank you again.

See you in the bike lane.

Nice work Portland.

Are you really petitioning the Guinness Book of World Records? Because that would be kinda awesome.

Way to go PDX!

Anyone want to make book on how long it will be before city bureaucrats claim credit for another independent bike fun event?

I’d imagine that there were likely some bureaucrats on that ride.

Speaking of no injuries, did anyone figure out what happened to that dude that was laid out with the ambulance checking up on him?
My daughter’s friend bit it right near that spot as well, because some one high fived her and then did not let her hand go. She wiped out and chipped a tooth. I wonder if the same thing happened to the guy who was injured. I know a few people posted queries as to his status, maybe I missed the update in the comments.
Hope he is o.k.

Well, that’s a relief. The sausage festival has been paid for.

“Expect to see our petition to the Guinness Book of World Records soon.”

Wow! I really loved the idea that someone posted about starting the ride in several places next year. Sounds like that might be necessary if they are going after a Guiness record… the city is going to be full with naked cyclists next year.

Perhaps our new motto could be, “Pants what have they done for you lately?”

We are all very glad that y’all had such a wonderful time riding naked through the streets of NW Portland.

IS IT NECESSARY TO WAKE EVERYBODY UP ALONG YOUR ROUTE?

Nobody cares about y’all except y’all!

So shut the F*** up and ride quietly next time!

Show some respect for other people!!

An you guys wonder why there is animosity?

I think with a once-a-year event such as this, a little festive woo-hooing isn’t so bad.

Total fun peeps! Can’t wait for next year!

If your trying to sleep, and have something important to attend to the next day, a little festive woo-hooing is not appreciated!

And it doesn’t add to the credibility of the bike movement in Portland either.

I think most people were pretty respectful in the neighborhood areas. But really, it was 10-11 on a Saturday night. It wasn’t THAT late. And of course there were also plenty of supporters along the sides of the road that were yelling too.

And the route did not go into the northwest. The closest was riding along Burnside. But really if you live along Burnside, I can hardly imagine that a little joyous hollering would be discernible from the other stuff going on in that area.

Anyway, it was an event. City events happen all the time, and there’s no reason to blame bicyclists for causing noise any more than any other type of parade or gathering. You live in a city and benefit from the proximity to jobs, transportation, and all of its varied inhabitants and community events.
