It’s going to be sunny and in the 70s, folks. Here’s a sampling of what you can do about it:

– Tonight is Filmed by Bike’s opening night! Party in the street, drink beer, win prizes, and watch bike movies with a raucous, costumed crowd. The party goes from 6pm to 1am, the show times are 7, 9, and 11. SE 26th and Clinton.

– For a mellower but no less fun evening out riding with the kids, tonight is also the monthly Kidical Mass. Join a friendly group of preschoolers as they take to the streets at a mellow pace. They aren’t blocking traffic, they ARE traffic.

– On Saturday, meet up around 9 at Palio’s in Ladd’s Circle for some coffee, and then ride to the downtown farmer’s market with the Bike2Market crew.

– Broke? Bike making weird noises? Don’t know how to deal? Bring your ride down to Hinson Church at SE 20th and Salmon on Saturday morning between 10 and 2 for a free check-up. If you opted to clean out your garage this morning, you can also bring your old bikes here to donate.

It won’t be the weekend any longer, but don’t forget our Neighborhood Get Together on Monday night out in far southeast.

What else is going on this weekend? We’d love to hear about your plans and adventures….

Hey everyone who’s going to Filmed By Bike, remember to set a good example on your way to and from the event! We’re lucky to have the freedom to enjoy this kick-ass event, so respect the ‘hood by having lights and stopping at stop signs. Have fun!

It’s shaping up to be a beautiful night for Kidical Mass. The Southeast Kidical Mass will be meeting up at Sunnyside Environmental School Park (35th and Taylor).

I’ll be leading a “17” group ride for Portland Velo (and that’s 17 as in “top speed on the flats,” NOT “average at the end”). The route is a 44-mile jaunt from Longbottom Coffee Roasters in Hillsboro out to Dairy Creek by way of North Plains (no Idaho stops!) and back by way of Roy. The weather should be perfect.

Filmed by Bike was rad, as usual. Blocking off the street was a complete success – kudos whoever thought of that. Anyone who missed opening night should be sorely disappointed – but hey, there’s six days of Filmed by bike left, get over there!

(Team Beer, as expected, provided security like a gaggle of foxes guarding a hen house.)

Already counting the days till next opening night – good job everyone.

Filmed by Bike was awesome! I didn’t even see any films yet!

But, I did take some photos and videos of the bike fun in the street:

A gorgeous morning ride with my sweetie to the PSU Farmers’ Market, followed by trips to a garden party (happy birthday, Sara!) and past a still-sleeping Peninsula Rose Garden. A perfect ride, and a perfect day!

Did part of the RTB route, including the backside (the hard route) up Bald Peak. I never had ridden a 20% grade before. Beautiful weather.

A perfect Hood River weekend on two wheels- errands all over town on the cruiser, a road ride on Saturday along the Historic Highway, and finished off the weekend with a mountain bike ride at Post Canyon this afternoon. Incredible wildflowers along the way!

Had a great time on Steve Nelson’s memorial ride to Mt Tabor and Rocky Butte. Thanks very much to Team Beer for organizing it and keeping us klutzier riders from getting run over. No wonder Steve was always talking about how cool you all are!

I might have seen you on the Historic Hwy trail between HR and Mosier. I went out to Rowena Crest and back to Hood River and saw larkspur, balsum root, lomatium, fawn lily, and other wild flowers. Also saw deer and a wild turkey. The cherry blossums were not quite open, so next weekend will be awesome!

Hi Bob (#13)!
We rode Saturday to Rowena also and the road was packed with happy cyclists! We did roll by plant ID (and stopped for a few that couldn’t be definitively identified at rolling pace)- the Columbia Lomatium is almost done, as are the delightful grass widows, but the Balsam is really taking off. Even saw a few paintbrush near Rowena and carpets of mary blue lips.

A couple of weeks yet for the blossoms in the Upper Valley here, but you’re right- next weekend should be perfect along the old highway! If the wind doesn’t pick up too much. 🙂
