Filmed by Bike starts tomorrow with Clinton Street opened up for the Opening Night Throwdown.
Local bike event organizer/promoter extraordinaire Ayleen Crotty has clearly outdone herself this year. Crotty — whose Filmed by Bike event started in 2003 as a small, grassroots film fest — has blown-up into a major happening the likes of which have never been seen in the bike film world.

This year, Crotty has added tons of new features, screenings, and events into the mix. Tomorrow’s “Opening Night Throwdown” will close SE Clinton Street to cars for a street party that Crotty says will include the “largest bike parking setup Portland has ever seen.”

To accommodate the usual overflow inside the Clinton Street Theater on opening night, Crotty will have three screenings, each one preceded by a raffle, with lots of great prizes, from local bike crafters and businesses.

You never know who (or what)
might show up at Filmed by Bike.

Screenings continue in a packed week-long schedule (Crotty estimates 3,000 people will show up over the course of the week), and include several different programs featuring over 80 different movies.

One new highlight this year is the Going for the Gold program (a.k.a Wonk Night), hosted by Streetfilms. Filmmaker Clarence Eckerson will emcee the evening, showing his best films and leading an informal discussion about the policy, infrastructure, and cultural issues surrounding the worldwide bicycling movement.

Filmed by Bike is always a good time, whether you’re there to gawk at outlandish costumes and bikes at the party, hang with friends and make new ones, enjoy the movies, or all of the above. We’ll see you there!

Oh, and if you need any more prodding, check out the 2009 FBB trailer below:

Team Filmed by Bike has been working really hard over the last half year and we can’t wait to throwdown tomorrow night!

Thanks for the article, Jonathan.

I know people are worried about getting in tomorrow night. Our new 11pm screening should help. Come early, enjoy the beer garden, embrace the line.

OR – get a VIP Pass and just waltz right in, no waiting line, guaranteed entry, advance ticket purchase. FilmedByBike.org/vip.html

Do I understand correctly that I can skip Friday night, go sometime next week and still see the same films?

Hey Scott,

YES for sure. Skip Friday and you’ll still have the same opportunity to see all the same films – in a different atmosphere. All films are at the Clinton Street Theater. See the schedule on our website for the details. There are four separate programs to see.

We know the Opening Night Throwdown’s not for everyone….
