The winter weather here in Portland continues to be so crazy it’s almost laughable. That is, unless you’re a PBOT employee, or if you’ve had to contend with snow, ice, potholes, gravel, rain, wind, etc… on your daily commute.
On that note comes a great set of photos by BikePortland’s intrepid roving West Side correspondent Jim “K’Tesh” Parsons. Jim was riding to work as usual on the Fanno Creek Trail through Beaverton (just west of Portland) when he came upon this otherwise bucolic sight:

On this side of the hills, the area around Johnson Creek on the Springwater Corridor Trail (another key route for many bike commuters) is also seeing some flooding. The Oregonian’s Joseph Rose took his camera out on it this morning and the Bureau of Transportation issued a press release with flood warnings about this and other areas.
I guess we’ll have to add floods and closed trails to the list of things making the bike commute a bit tougher than usual this year.
A lot of people don’t know that K’Tesh has webbed feet and a pontoon bike. It’s true.
And if the water is as deep as that tonight I may also be missing pants…
I’m sorry K’Tesh, but that trail pretty much floods every year. Especially right under Scholls Ferry there. I remember riding under that bridge in feet of water when I was a kid. The park is built on a pretty good wetland after all…
The trail follows Fanno Creek. Yeah, it’s gonna flood… but still, that’s an impressive picture! 🙂
K’tesh, keep yer pants on… it’s too chilly still to ride without pants. 🙂
