Blumenauer, state reps will talk transportation at Town Hall tonight

From L to R: State Rep. Jackie Dingfelder, U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, and State Rep. Ben Cannon.

Tonight in Southeast Portland, U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Oregon State Representatives Ben Cannon and Jackie Dingfelder (recently elected to the Senate) will host a Global Warming Town Hall.

Among the topics the trio will discuss include, “transportation options, energy efficiency, renewable energy and energy costs, land use planning, green jobs, public health, and more.”

All three of these politicians have been known to be quite bike-friendly in the past. We all know about Blumenauer’s bike credentials, and Dingfelder is a regular ally of the BTA and former Alice Award winner.

I met and rode with Ben Cannon at a ride last year and I have feeling we’ll be hearing a lot more from this 32 year-old Southeast Portland resident (and former Rhodes Scholar) this year.

It’s an understatement to say that global warming and transportation will be very hot topics in 2009 (both at the state and national levels) and it’s good to see our representatives looking for input, feedback and ideas from the community. If you have thoughts about what direction Oregon and our country should be headed in this regard, show up tonight and make your voice heard.

Here are details on tonight’s event:

Ben\’s my rep. Seems like a super nice guy. I have to say though, it\’s a weird new experience for me to have my elected official be substantially younger than me…

Jonathan, is there a map link for that address?

Ben is also my rep and a great one! Earl and Jackie are top notch. I wish I could make it to this one.

Kudos to the organizers to putting this together in East Portland! 82nd Avenue is precisely the type area where we need to target friendly, empowering bicycle outreach.

I attended this event. Earl had to leave after a half hour. Ben and Jackie were good, but there was very little discussion about bicycles.
