You’ve got some important choices to make in this election, so why not wait a few days before making up your mind?
Tomorrow is the big City Club debate featuring the six candidates vying for City Commissioner Seat #1 (that’s the race with Fritz, Smith, Bissonnette, Branam, Fahey, and Lewis — all solid candidates), and I’ve got thoughts and notes I’d like to share about them as well.
Also, in a few minutes I’m sitting down with mayoral hopeful Sho Dozono. I’ll ask him to share his thoughts on how he’ll work to make Portland equal to Amsterdam — a claim he made in a televised debate last month.
So, if you care about bike-related issues, hold on to those ballots for a few more days… and stay tuned…
Jonathon, if Sho doesnt have anything meaningful to say, hold him to his statements, make him sweat it!

Sho is notorious for saying one thing, and then retracting what he said – saying that was not what he meant. Get it in writing, with LOTS of clarifications, so you can hold him accountable, something he has yet to be….
It still amazes me that anyone can support someone that \”raided\” a trust fund that he was supposed to be the trustee of. He should have been jailed for that. Then there are the other financial mis-steps he has made, and now, his latest of not paying his rent for The Bush Garden…. just WHY would anyone trust this guy?

it was good to finally chat with him. He held his ground on Sauvie and explained why he\’d be good for bikes.
i need to listen to my audio and put the story together.
Now I\’m waiting for the Sho literature to come in the mail showing him on a bike with his smiling family.
OMG,It’s kind of scary to review Dozono’s first 100 days statement. (It\’s on his website)
I love his first line…”I will develop a strategy for building a clean technology workforce by partnering with industry, government and non-profits.” What does that mean? It sounds all lofty and “feel good” but please, “will develop a strategy”…I guess that means he doesn’t even have an inkling of how to even begin to achieve a clean technology workforce. Or does he have to be Mayor to be able reveal his secret plan?
PPPleeease…..$50 million rainy day fund established by getting money from where?
“He will work with the council and city bureaus to develop a capital expenditure budget” Duh, that’s comes with the job. Mayor Potter has just released the 2008-2009 budget.
Hmm…he “will immediately focus on neighborhood development plans”…I guess he’s trashing Mayor Potter’s $1.5 millon Vision PDX data and going to have the city pay for a new one.
Nice to know he’s going to sit down with East Portlanders. He can try to get up to speed by checking in on the East Portland Action Plan. Of maybe he doesn’t know it exists?
He doesn’t need to lead an international trade delegation. He can just work on hosting Greenbuild International Conference and Expo that Mayor Potter attended this past November and promoted Portland. But I guess Donozo likes to travel and unfortunately…Portland only has the facilities to host a conference of a few hundred .
I guess he will fill the 47 vacant PDOT positions with volunteers because there isn’t money in the budget to pay them all.
It will be interesting to see how many businesses he can get to rally around for his educational causes when he doesn’t believe the city will be or needs to continue growing.
Yes ,that “$80 million Burnside-Couch couplet will serve those special interests” i.e. East-side/West-side enhanced vehicle and transit flow with increased on street parking…oops there is a mention of sidewalks, bike lanes and bicycle parking…I’m sure those are the unacceptable big ticket items.
Portland, this guy is a real prize.
Apparently the Portland Mercury Republicans endorse him. I guess they believe the city can survive being on hold for another 4 years until they can find a real candidate.

Thanks for clarifying that line for me. I wasn\’t trying to imply the Portland Mercury endorsed Dozono. As you correctly pointed out, the endorsement is from the Republican party of Multonomah County.

Sorry, I sent my ballot in LAST Friday, the day I got it.
I think all the candidates involved have spoken quite well on the issues previously.
Folks, please DON\’T hold on to your ballots – send them in ASAP!!!!!!
