The Portland State University Cycling Team and the Bike Gallery have partnered up on an event to raise money for bike safety education in honor of a fallen friend, Brett Jarolimek.

Organizers announced today that the event will be held on May 1st at the downtown Bike Gallery (1001 SW 10th Ave) and will feature a raffle, a silent auction, and gourmet food, wine and beer.

Two local bike companies have contributed to the raffle: Signal Cycles, whose founder Matt Cardinal was a close friend of Brett’s, and Veloforma Cycles will both donate a frame to the cause.

A Signal Cycles frame will be raffled off.

The money raised in the raffle and silent auction will go into the Brett Jarolimek Memorial Fund that has been established to, “enhance motorist awareness and education, enhance the awareness, visibility and education of bicyclists, and enable bicycle safety infrastructure projects on a selected basis.”

Attendees will also have the opportunity to share their ideas for bike safety campaigns and projects.

For more information, see the Brett Jarolimek Memorial Fund website.

That picture from NAHBS was quite possibly one of the most touching things I had seen in a good while. That and the stolen ghost bike\’s note.
