Photo Gallery: USGP of Cyclocross in Portland

I made it out to Portland International Raceway yesterday to check out the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross.

The racing action, large crowds, and good times could not be stopped despite a barrage of wild weather that included snow flurries, strong winds, and cold rain.

Check out the photo gallery below for a look at the scenes both on and off the race course…

Created with Admarket’s flickrSLiDR.

Racing continues all day today with the pro races starting at 1:45.

Nice work Jonathan…many good race memories there. Looks like you missed the rain Saturday…and today was even crazier with barracades and tents being lifted and flipped. The riders and crews out there today were ALL pros and troopers to stick it out.

And thanks to Chris King for the warm beverages!

All in all thanks to the organizers and sponsors …a great and fun event…took the family down there today too.

Suggestion for the organizers next year…how about co-marketing the event with Trimet…ride the MAX (or CTRAN) to the event? PIR is so convenient to transit if a PIR on site shuttle could be added. (I got lucky with rides to the MAX stop while walking in out of PIR.) It could also be very bike friendly with a covered secure valet bike parking too. Seeing those bikes parked against barricades get blow down into the mud was sad.;-)

On the other hand if many CCX racers tale MAX and leave mud all over the train that might create problems.

Was that Gary Fisher in the black rain slicker?

\”Was that Gary Fisher in the black rain slicker?\”

Yep..it sure was.. it sort of made him look more like Darth Vader. And it was so long it nearly dragged on the ground.

So that WAS G.F. Dude looked like the bike mafia! Awesome weekend – Jonathan your pics capture the flavor so well. I had about my funnest race Saturday with guys from all over the country even though it wasn\’t an elite category. And Sunday was epic for those of us spectating, and looked mega-epic for the racers. Particularly memorable scene: watching the Mens elite at the barriers while a storm of golden leaves was blowing through horizontally.

We went and watched on sunday, and it was amazing! I have a lot of respect for anybody and everybody who raced that day. It was tough enough to stand there and watch!
