Portland coverage in Momentum Magazine

Shawn Granton and story by
Portlander Mykle Hansen.

The current issue of the always excellent Vancouver BC-based Momentum Magazine has some notable Portland coverage.

There’s a great story titled Bicycle Dream Date by local writer (and much more) Mykle Hansen. Its a great account of a full day on a bike and Hansen manages to weave in much of what makes life on a bike in Portland so, well, dreamy.

My favorite line is, “Biking in Portland is like being gay in San Francisco: it’s just normal.”

Hansen’s article is partnered with a full-page illustration by well-known Portland artist Shawn Granton.

Then, just a few pages later is a nice profile of some guy who does a bike blog. The well-written story is by Justin Berger and the photo is by Portlander Dat Nguyen.

You can check out the entire issue online at MomentumPlanet.ca.

And Momentum has a profile on Toronto mad bike stencil artist Janet Attard who will be coming here next year and doing an art show of her work.
See some examples here:

And her partner Martin Heath of Cinecyle will be bringing some AWESOME vintage bike racing films as well thru Cinema Project.

That\’s so cool. I love seeing things like this. Nice picture, Jonathan. Well done for being written up. Everyone have a good weekend. I\’m off the bike and putting the backpack on for some mountain love this weekend.

Jonathon,

You should make some shirts that say \”Biking in Portland is like being gay in San Francisco: it’s just normal.”

I\’d definately buy one!

Awesome article, though someone along the way misspelled Milwaukie, twice.

\”Milwaukee\” is in Wisconsin, and was originally spelled \”Milwaukie\”, which is the current name of the Portland suburb.

Sorry to nitpick – it really is a stellar article, well-written and witty.

Oh, and way to go Shawn – great artwork! I really enjoy all the places Shawn\’s art shows up.

Ditto on the shirt – I\’d definitely buy one, and wear it in Detroit when I see the relatives.

Nothing says \”I love the Motor City\” more than a pro-bicycle T-shirt. 😉

I would buy that T-shirt and distribute among my friends. That is a great idea!

And Mykle another great quote: \”Bike Fun is the secret weapon of our pedal revolution.\”

Thanks SHIFT for adding the fun.

A lot of people in Portland are bike-curious or bike-sexual.

Matt Picio

\”bike-sexual\” – sex with a bike, on a bike, or just with a bike present?

and does that cover trikes and unis, or is there a separate category for that?

What if you\’re just sleeping with your bike?

Well Beth, I think both are normal for Portland. And now that conservatives have something new to worry about… 🙂
