Report from the Night of Living Donut ride

Pedalpalooza '07 - Donut Ride

Timo “Cap’n Pastry” Forsberg was in rare form last night. He led scores of hungry and hearty Pedalpaloozaers on his Night of the Living Donut ride.

At the first stop, Staccato Gelato, the entire sidewalk was taken over by cyclists. The nice folks at Staccato made a special batch of their wonderfully yummy donuts (they don’t usually bake on Thursdays) to the grateful crowd.

After this initial fuel up of donuts and coffee, the ride continued downtown to Voodoo, then up to Alberta to Tonalli’s and then, the mystery location was revealed… the Portland International Airport! Where else in Portland can you find 24/7 donuts?!

If you missed it, you’ve got to take a few minutes and read Timo’s absolutely awesome ride report.

I was only at the first stop. Check out the photo gallery.

Donut lovers of Portland, I salute you!
Since the documentation of effort was a little skimpy, here are the stats:

Miles from start to 1st stop (Voodoo): 3.7
Miles from start to 2d stop (Tonalli\’s): 4.8
Miles from start to 3d stop (PDX/Beaverton Bakery): 14.4
Miles from start to home (for me): 19

Now let\’s compare with fuel consumed. According to one website (http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/activity/4.html), a cyclist burns about 40 calories/mile going moderate pace – 10 – 12 /mph.
According to another website (https://www.dunkindonuts.com/aboutus/nutrition/Product.aspx?Category=Donuts&id=DD-509), there are 290 calories in a blueberry donut.

So, by those calculations I burned off 2.6 donuts on the ride. Oddly, I consumed something in the neighborhood of a half-dozen (who can count that late at night). So I better get going on my bike. I hear there\’s a good donut shop in Vancouver…
