Local cyclist imports trailers from Poland

first shipment of Extrawheels.

Local recumbent enthusiast and general bike nut John Climaldi was looking through VeloVision Magazine one day when he came across something that was “so cool” he just had to know more. The product was the Extrawheel, a Poland-made bicycle trailer that wasn’t available in the U.S. …until now.

Despite the challenging language barrier, Climaldi tells me he’s now the official U.S. distributor of Extrawheel trailers. His first shipment is piled high in a storage facility in southeast Portland and he’s busy setting up an online storefront and signing up dealers.

Behold the Extrawheel ($329).

According to the Extrawheel website, these are the lightest single-wheeled bike trailers in the world and Climaldi says they’re great for carrying cargo — especially for mountain biking and recumbent touring — because they don’t wobble.

For more info, check out this page on the Extrawheel site, or browse John’s Extrawheel blog. To order a trailer or ask questions, you can call him at (503) 210-5440.

this is indeed awesome. When I first started looking around for trailers this one was one of the first I came accross. I fell in love with it and started looking for a place to buy one but I couldn’t find one. I’m glad that this trailer is an option now. ^_^

Looks awesome…but geez…$350? That’s way too expensive for a single wheel and a bit of steel and nylon. I’ll stick with my $100 Ortlieb backpack for now, thanks.
