It’s Portland Week on Streetsblog

I keep tabs on many blogs, but there are just a couple that I truly respect and admire.

Right now, the one I’m most impressed with is Streetsblog. It is one of, if not the best activism-oriented blog on the Web.

The blog is an initiative of the New York Streets Renaissance Campaign, a group that is working to,

“Educate New Yorkers about potential transportation policy changes that will improve quality of life across New York City and promote a rebalancing of public space away from private vehicles and toward community needs.”

To that end, they’ve hired none other than esteemed filmmaker Clarence Eckerson of BikeTV.

Given a salary to travel the globe with his camera, Clarence has accomplished great things. These include amassing a trove of short films on many facets of Portland’s bicycle infrastructure and policies.

This week, Streetsblog is showing one of these videos each week in the hopes of demonstrating the potential of bike-friendly practices to New York City’s residents and bureaucrats.

So head over to Streetsblog and add your insights and experiences to the conversation. New York City needs our help.
